The body is now ready for paint so once again we entrust the move to Terry Green of Active Franks to haul it off to the paint shop for some colour.

March 18, 2005

Terry of Active Franks now has it firmly chained down and off the pony goes into town.  If anybody has noticed it is almost 1 year to the day when the 67 convertible body made the same trip

March 18, 2005

Steve (l) and Shawn wipe down the surfaces in preparation to paint.

March 19, 2005

Shawn is using foam tape to seal the edges around the trunk lid.  The same material was used on the doors

March 19, 2005

Shawn starts the painting which is a Base/Clear system.  2 coats of base colour were applied by Steve and Shawn

March 19, 2005

Not able to open the booth doors while paint booth was active so here's the car after 3 coats of clear coat have been applied.

March 19, 2005

With the masking tape and paper removed it's now time to start re-assembly

March 30, 2005

The first order of business will be to install the brake lines and get the brakes functional.

March 30, 2005

Then the power train goes in and work commences on the interior which is currently at the upholstery shop.

March 30, 2005

The freshly rebuilt 351C and the 4 speed top-loader with Hurst shifter is now installed.  The Hurst shifter was stock on the Mach1. The valve covers have not yet been painted.

April 19, 2005

Steve is working on the headliner while he awaits the Glass man to install the windshield and rear window.

April 21, 2005

The original front windshield is being prepped for installation.  Considering it's 35 years old, it still looks in good shape.

April 21, 2005

With the proper tools the lifting and inserting the windshield went smooth.  The chrome moulding buffed up like new and snapped nicely into place.

April 21, 2005

The Heater/Air Conditioning system is now in place as are the clutch and power brake pedal.  Hurst shifter was installed shortly after this photo was taken.

April 21, 2005

The huge rear fast-back window was a bit more of a challenge for the guys.  The rear glass is also the original Ford glass and is in great shape.

April 21, 2005

Anyone who followed the 67 Convertible project will no doubt recognize these lovely custom wheels.  :-)  Well I'm glad to see them go and the new Magnum 500 wheels and Goderich TAs take their place.

April 21, 2005

The windshield and rear windows are now in, the new wheels and Goderich TA tires are on and the engine should be running by weekend.

April 21, 2005

Fenders are on and engine is in.  Clear coat has been wet sanded twice in preparation for a two more coats of Grabber Orange .

May 13, 2005

Checking the Ram Air shaker scoop assembly for fit.  The functional scoop is opened by vacuum (actually lack thereof) on acceleration taking cold air at highway speed direct into the breather.

May 13, 2005

Dash is taking shape.  All pedals and dash switches are installed and functioning, heater and Air Conditioning vents are also in place.

May 13, 2005

Here is one of the high back seats before restoration.  Above before covering was removed and left before being sand blast and repairs made

April 21, 2005

Body parts are being installed.  The exhaust system as well as all bottom side components are ready to go

Seat frames after cleaning and repairing ready for being re upholstered by Bill at Gold Star Upholstery in Cambridge

May 1, 2005

It takes some strength to massage the seat cover into place.  When done Bill had succeeded with factory fresh looking seats.

The First "Firing"

Well the engine was "fired" up to-day - literally.  One first cranking the timing was off a bit and raw gas in the engine resulted in a quick flash.  The first photo you can just see the start of the backfire, then the flash and then you can see it exit through the shaker opening in the hood.  Good stove pipe for the event. :-)    A brief video clip will load below - just run your mouse over image window to start.

What we thought would be a quick trip was delayed with road construction beside the airport

May 30, 2005

Oh yes - Terry - before we forget - there is no nut holding the steering wheel in place.
