September - December 2003

The September November progress saw the rest of the cancerous metal removed and replaced with new after market steel members and panels.  As you can see in the scrap book photos below the previous floor is now new steel as are the engine and rear frame rails.

All of the front replacement steel is now in place.  The heavy cross member will tie together the front rails to the heavy duty side rails that were present in the convertibles.

New floor pans will finish off the floor area

Steering wheel shown here is actually off a later model

New rear frame rails have been welded into place and tied to the heavy duty convertible side member.

It is September 24th and Steve is making excellent progress.  All of the new steel work is  now complete and the initial primer is being applied.

The new floor panels and torque boxes are in and primed as is the seat panel which in the convertible is an extra heavy duty support tying the two side rails together for added rigidity.

Steve was out of commission for over a month with some health issues but things are now back on stream.

Here the body is on the rack to allow application of joint sealant in all of the metal joints prior to painting.

All of the new metal panels are visible in this photo.

The bottom of the vehicle has now been primed and the black finish paint applied and new rear leaf springs installed.

The front suspension will all be cleaned and rebuilt with new bushings and ball joints.

Current effort is eliminating dents and deep scratches in the metal that occurred over the past 35+ years.  Also filer is required to blend the replaced quarter panels with the rest of the fender line.   Doors are fitting very well.

Same story for the right side and trunk lid.
