The exterior of the car is complete and it is now looking as good as the stand-in model photograph (above right) that I have been using since the start of the project.

Here's the beauty out for a photo op.  Note the new wheels and tires are now on.  What a difference that makes.

Licence plate was our first pick and was available.   The car will be safety checked  later this week then we can add the validation plate sticker.

We are still having a heck of a problem locating paint and dye to match the parchment seat material.  Steve and I feel we finally have a supplier in which case the interior should be finished shortly.... do I sound like a broken record?

OK! ....here's a sneak preview of one completed door however the paint and dye do not match so it needs to be disassembled and redone.   The brushed aluminium insert and chrome dressing have been beautifully restored to like new.

Well we finally were able to source matching paint and dye to finish off the interior.  here the rear seats and quarter panels have been installed along with deluxe seat-belts.

Installing the console proved a real challenge for Steve.   It was a bit like a jig-saw trying to determine the correct order of assembly.   Note the dash looks a bit better than it did in July of last year.

The Pony left the coral on June 18, 2004 almost 11 months to the day from when it was pulled from storage.  Return to the Home Page for a sample of before and after images.

Summary

During this project I have met numerous people and companies who have been a part of the success of this work.  While there are still a few loose ends to finish off I will take a few paragraphs to pass along some thanks and attempt to get the attention of the one company that shafted me.

THANK YOU

  • On top must be Steve and Paul Waechter.  When we started this project I really wondered what we were in for but with Steve's unending confidence the project has come to a better than planed conclusion.

    Contacting Steve
You can contact Steve by phone at +1 (519) 664-1825 or email at .
Steve will be happy to talk pony cars with you.
  • Next would be eBay.  Without eBay it would have been impossible to locate all of the parts required to convert this standard convertible over to a GT exterior and a Deluxe Interior.

  • At the top of customer service would be Freddy at Mustang Masters of Jacksonville FL.  Freddy consistently went the extra mile to make sure any shortages were replaced with 3 day UPS service.

  • Gold Star Auto Trim in Cambridge for their great work on reupholstering the seats.

  • Rob Waechter at D&W Autobody Supplies for his efforts in mixing batch after batch of sample paints to get just the right blend of the original Ford Candy Apple Red.

  • After several attempts at matching paint and dye through so called restoration suppliers I dropped into CarQuest AutoPaint store on Hoffman in Kitchener.  Here Chris went the extra mile to mix an exact match for the parchment paint and dye with a single product.

SHAFTED

With all of the purchases made on and off eBay I was shafted only by one supplier. Allen Cross at Fomoco Obsolete http://www.fomoco.com/ sold and took payment for two tilt steering items.  After waiting and waiting and several emails he said they got misplaced and were going out next day.  1 weeks later still nothing and then after about my 6th email one of the two pieces did show up.

The rag joint for my tilt column was never shipped (US$100 value) and he has refused to answer any emails or refund my payment.  So Mr. Allan Cross - this is your opportunity to refund my PayPal money via paul@ve3sy.com and these paragraphs disappear.

Considering the large number of eBay transactions during this project, I was treated with professional courtesy by every other supplier including two full refunds on items for which descriptions and condition of items were quite embellished by the sellers.
