The SCJ is Back on Track
last updated Monday, April 13, 2009

For all of you SCJ lovers following this project, I'm glad to say it is back on track however due to some personal issues the project may encounter some additional short term delays.

Paul Cassel

Steve has been working on his 69 428 SCJ (on hoist) which is now painted and the engine is installed so now it's time to get back to my 71 SCJ project.

While switching cars around the SCJ saw some spring sunshine long enough for this photo.  What appear to be creases in the door are just reflections

The interior starts to take shape with the installation of the headliner in the original factory colour.

The front suspension has been updated with the tie rods and idler arm still needing to be detailed,.

Following issues with incorrect lifters causing oil starvation to the top end, the SCJ engine has been stripped and tanked.

With the exception of the rockers and push rods, the SCJ heads were OK except for one valve guide.

The forged pistons, rings and rods were all OK however I am putting in all new bearings

ENGINE UPDATE
The camshaft, lifters, rockers, pushrods and cam bearings were all rendered unserviceable as a result of no upper end lubrication caused by the installation of incorrect lifters that had no oil passage holes to feed pushrod gallery.   This was discovered during the dyno break-in rather than after installation.

I do get the feeling that the previous engine owner/builder will assist in the cost of replacement components.   I hope I am correct so time will tell.

The engine has now been gone over by Star Engines who replaced all bearings, cam and rockers and will now head back to the Konigshofer Motorsport Dyno prior to being installed for break-in and tuning.

The steering and suspension is now completed and detailed as can be seen in this photo
