On the road Spring 2009

Following almost two and half years of work, the SCJ was licensed and back on the road March 10th, 2009.

It has been a longer process than previous projects however more time was spent detailing under-hood and body areas of the car.

We all hear of those rare barn cars found after sitting for years.  Well I found this car on June 22nd 2006 less than three miles from my home.  The owner, Joe Weikman, bought her in 1980 with the intentions of restoring it however it spent most of this time in his barn.  You can read more history of the vehicle here.

As soon as the registration was transferred, I ordered the Eminger invoice for this vehicle from Marti Auto.   Kevin Marti now owns all of the 1968-73 Ford factory invoices and computer records allowing him to produce a report featuring all of the options delivered with this car.  Marti is also licensed by Ford to produce replacement door, buck and engine tags.

The report from Marti shows that the car was built in Dearborn on July 9th, 1971 and was delivered to Ridgehill Ford in Galt (Cambridge) with a 429 Ram Air Super Cobra Jet/Drag Pack option. It was also fitted with the 3:91 Traction-Lock differential, 4 speed close ratio transmission, and painted Grabber Yellow with White Clarion Knit/Corinthian Vinyl interior. (note the car was originally a Grabber Yellow (5W) and repainted Blue in 1980. Joe dyed the white interior black)

Below are a series of photos taken on the day we rolled the car out of Joe's barn to load on the flatbed.  Joe was sad to see the car go but we have promised him the opportunity to take her for a spin when the restoration is complete.

The restoration is now complete.  You can use the links at the bottom of this page to view the complete restoration project.

I'm honoured to have been the one returning this rare car back to her former glory.

The engine was run every year to keep oil on the bearings and while there are many exhaust leaks and she runs rough, it was able to leave the barn under her own power.

Joe and his Daughter Kayla say goodbye to the car.  Joe was sad to see the car go however I promised them a chance to take it for a drive after the car has been restored.

The interior features the deluxe Mach 1 appointments including the tach dash, gauge cluster and clock.  The Hurst 4 speed shifter was also standard equipment.

Despite a lot of dirt and grime, everything from the Drag Pack option is intact including the RAM Air cleaner the rev limiter, and the Detroit Locker 31 spline rear axels

Use the menu bar at bottom of the page to view the restoration project.

I am sorry to report that Peter Hammer, who owned the car in the late 70s, died suddenly from heart failure on Oct 25, 07.  He was just 48
